personal Rant.

I have probably ranted about this before but I gotta bring it up again. What I hate in this society of ours is that, if we’re guarded, as women, then we are prudes but if we are open to sexuality, then we are labelled as sluts. It’s one of the biggest societal double standards out there. As a young woman, living close to the city of Toronto, I feel an obligation to really discuss this. I do not consider myself a slut, nor do I really consider myself a prude. I guess I’m just normal, but then again, there are many men out there that would label me as a “tease” while others as a “prude.” So, really, this is just subjective.

What I don’t understand is the hate on girl hate for a girl admitting to masterbating. Yes, the correct term is “admitting.” When I first told my best friend, recently, that I do indeed masterbate, I felt ashamed to tell her, even though she’s the closest person I could really tell. I wasn’t sure how she was going to take it, how she will see me or think of me. I was vulnerable. But I told her. I think it’s something that girls and young women shouldn’t be afraid to really talk about with their friends. Just because a girl self-pleasures, masterbates, whatever the fuck you want to call it, doesn’t make her a slut.

I actually think its a very healthy and natural thing to do. As a young woman growing up, I didn’t really have an older female role model I could look up to and to discuss “feminine” issues. I mean, I love my mom but her and I just don’t have that kind of relationship. So as a young woman, when I was 16, I was so confused, I had no idea what goes on down there, really. And I DO NOT recommend finding out how things work down there by sleeping with a bunch of dudes, the best way you can really get to know yourself and what you like and don’t like is for you to masterbate, figure it out on your own. Its healthy, safe and honestly, the best thing you can do for yourself.

I started to explore that area on my own when I was about 17, and I did not have sex until I was 20, however, even between the ages of 17-20, (I had a boyfriend throughout that time as well), I still didn’t really push the boundaries, I was afraid, felt ashamed. Then at 20, I finally had sex with my long time boyfriend, and it was good, it ended up being great and amazing. But, I never gave myself that chance to really explore what I like, thoroughly. I broke up with that same boyfriend just a year ago (I was 23) and it is not until recently, that I truly feel like a young woman learning about herself. I know I am late on this but this is why I am writing this. It is so important to really figure out how everything functions down there, what you like and enjoy before you really have sex. Half the time, when your young and have had sex, you don’t even enjoy it, you have no fucking clue what goes on down there.

My outlook, my preferences, my sexual turn ons and offs have changed so much within the last year, simply because I have been more honest with myself and my body. I watch more porn, I embrace sexuality and believe that it is something that really needs to be an honest and open subject between young girls. It disappoints me so much that young girls feel ashamed and feel like they will be judged if they bring up self pleasure, masterbation or adult films/ porn.

Its okay to talk about it, its okay to explore and its okay to figure out what you like and what turns you on.

WIth that being said, I am not promoting random/casual sex whatsoever. Be responsible with your own body and respect yourself.
